While the ideal way to treat decayed teeth is to remove decay and place a restoration, Silver Diamine is an alternative treatment that allows your child’s pediatric dentist to slow down the progression of decay using a noninvasive method. This treatment is particularly useful for toddlers, or young children with or without special healthcare needs who would be unable to complete typical treatment. Careful considerations must include the fact that Silver Diamine will permanently stain the decayed area of the tooth black. Healthy tooth structure will not be stained black. In certain instances, stained tooth structure may be replaced with a filling or crown in the future if your child becomes more cooperative for typical treatment.
