Pediatric Routine Check-ups and Cleanings
A regular pediatric dental check-up and cleaning is important in getting your child used to a dental office, alleviating any dental anxiety for both you and your child, and keeping your child’s mouth and teeth healthy.
During regular dental visits, we will examine your child’s teeth, gums, jaw, and bite. If we see any tartar, tooth decay, or plaque buildup, we will also perform a deep dental cleaning. Next, a motorized brush and some toothpaste will be used to clean and polish the teeth. Finally, a quick fluoride treatment may be given to protect your child’s teeth. If fluoride treatments are done, children should avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes.
We will also show your child the proper way to clean and floss their teeth so they can get in the habit of proper oral hygiene and dental care and ensure they know how to have healthy teeth and good overall oral health.
The American Dental Association recommends that kids brush their teeth, gums, and gum line, twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. They also recommend flossing daily to maintain the overall health of your teeth and mouth.
Bringing your child in for routine dental cleanings and check-ups at least twice a year (every six months) is a great preventative measure that can keep their mouth healthy and happy. Routine cleanings are also beneficial to prevent hardened plaque, gum disease, cavities, and other negative oral health problems.
